The bar chart represents the proportion of three age groups of children (5-8 years old, 9-11, 12-16) involved in four different activities (watching TV, reading, art, riding the bike) in Australia in 2012.
Overall, it can be seen that a watching TV was the most popular activity among all of the children. While 12-16 years old children enjoyed this activity the most, 5-8 years old kids were less interested in it. The opposite pattern is apparent in art category, which was the least common among all of the age groups. This category was preferable for the youngest age group, whereas children from 12 to 16 were tend to choose it less. Riding the bike was the second most popular choice, being more attractive for the oldest and youngest groups, respectively. In reading, there were less 5-8 years old children involved, than 9-11 and 12-16. Additionally, two older groups were equal.
98% of 12-16 years old children, 92% of 9-11, and 91% of the youngest age group took part in watching TV. 12-16 and 5-8 also preferred riding a bike, showing 82% of participance for the oldest group, and 78% for the youngest. However, this figure for 9-11 years old children was 63%.
Reading was the only type of activity, where 9-11 and 12-16 showed the same percentage of involvement, that was equal 70%. 5-8 years old kids weren’t that interested in this kind of leisure activity, therefore only 62% of them participated. The opposite pattern appeared in art, where the youngest group figure was 60%. However, only 55% and 48% of 9-11 and 12-16 fell to this category, respectively.
