The bar graph illustrates the net worth of households, businesses and the UK goverment, as well as their overall net worth, between the years 2000 and 2010. Overall, the UK total followed the households trend, but there is a stark contrast between the amount of money that households have and the net worth of both businesses and government. The industry sector never saw positive numbers during the period of time shown in the chart, and while the public sector never showed a dramatic increase, it remained steady for most of the years.
Even with a slight drop during 2008, going from around 6800 to just under 6000 billions, households in the UK held the most amount of money during the 2000 to 2010 period. This trend reached its peak in 2010, going just over 7000 billion pounds.
On the other hand, businesses did not have a positive net worth during the ten year period. Their worst years were 2000 and 2006, with numbers almost reaching negative 1000 billion pounds. During the year 2008, the private sector saw an improvement and it almost reached positive numbers.
At around negative ten billion pounds, the government closed the decade at a loss, but 2010 was an outlier. During the other 9 years of the decade, even if it never quite reached 500 billion pounds, the UK Government net worth didn’t show dramatic changes during those years.
