Overall, what stands out from the chart is that the largest percentages of waste dumped on landfills belonged to Toronto and Amman, while another popular method-incineration- prevailed in Kuala Lumpur. Notably, the least used way of utilising waste was composting in all countries.
In detail, the rate of waste disposed of through landfills in Toronto constituted around 75%, and roughly 50% in Amman, becoming the most favoured method. By contrast, in Madrid and Kuala Lumpur, only 30% and 15% of waste, respectively, was managed through landfills. The usage of incineration was less common in Toronto and most common in Kuala Lumpur, reaching almost 60%.
Regarding the remaining categories, recycling was most used in Madrid and Kuala Lumpur, not exceeding even 30%. The share of composting remained at the same level for all countries except Amman, where no more than approximately 3% of waste was disposed.
