The bar chart compares the accident reductions in Bridgewater before and after the introduction of extra lanes on five busy motorways (M1-M5).

Overall, before the adding of lanes, most accidents occurred on M1, M2 and M5. However, all roads showed significant drop of accidents after the countermeasure except M2. And the largest reduction is witnessed in M5.

M2 and M5 had the highest accident numbers before the introduction of extra lanes, both with 17 cases per km. But M5 reduced to only 7 accidents after the increase of lanes, while M2 only slightly dropped by 2.

M1 also showed a substantial drop, from 13 to 5 accidents per kilometre, remained its third

position. The traffic accidents that happened in M3 and M4 were 4 and 7 cases respectively right before the remedy, after that both decreased to 2 cases .
