The bar chart illustrates the sales of four types of music-rock, pop, jazz, and classical in the USA in the year of 2010 across five different age groups, measured in millions.
Overall, rock and pop music were more popular among younger age groups, while classical music sales increased steadily with age and peaked among the oldest group. Jazz sales remained relatively stable across all age categories.
Among people aged 16-22, pop music recorded the highest sales at just under 5 million, followed by rock at approximately 4 million. Jazz and classical music were far less popular in this group, selling below 2 million each. A similar pattern is seen in the 23-31 age group, where rock became the most popular genre at a little over 4 million, while pop sales declined slightly.
In contrast, for the 32-45 and 46-57 age groups, rock music continued to dominate, though sales showed a gradual decrease. Pop music sales dropped significantly in these age ranges, falling to around 1-1.5 million. Jazz and classical music, however, showed moderate and fairly consistent figures of around 2.5-3 million.
Among those aged 58 and above, classical music was the most popular genre, reaching over 4 million in sales, while rock and pop sold just under 3 million each. Jazz remained stable at about 2.5 million.
