The diagram shows the quantity of people moving into Australia from different places in 1987 and 1997. In this essay, I will analyze the main features of the chart and compare if necessary.

Overall, Western continents had high to middle-range number of settlers, while non-Western continents had middle to low.

Looking at the developed areas, it is clear that the total of immigrants from Europe dominated over the others in both years, despite dropping in 1997. Incomers from North/South America also experienced a sharp decrease in the next year, while Oceania was the opposite of them both. It rose slightly the following year, but still could not surpass Europe.

In the developing regions, Asia remained as the place with the most residents moving in both of the time, with a dramatic increase in 1997. Both of the other categories didn’t change much over the years, and their numbers were almost the same, but Middle and East Africa was slightly higher than Rest of Asia. They both still ended up being the only continents with low-ranged newcomers.
