In 1968, the largest share of weekly income was allocated to food, at 35%, followed by housing and clothing each received roughly 10%. Leisure spending was slightly lower at around 9%, while expenditure on transport, personal goods and household goods accounted for about 8%. Fuel and power was just over 5%.
By contrast, in 2018, the spending on food had dropped by half to approximately 17%, while leisure spending rose significantly to about 23%. Housing also saw a sharp increase, rising to around 19%. Meanwhile, transport expenditure almost doubled to around 14%, while spending on fuel and power, personal goods and clothing experienced a considerable decrease to below 5%. Household goods remained relatively stable, at around 7%.
