The bar chart demonstrates the proportion of people from five age groups using different sources of news in 2011.
Overall, it can be seen that radio was the most widely used medium among individuals aged 18 and above. Additionally, the use of social platforms was inversely related to age
In the first age group, social platforms were the most preferred choice with 80% of users, doubling the proportion of radio listeners and quadrupling that of microblogging. Moving to the 18-29 age group, whereas the percentage of social platform users remained unchanged at 80%, the figure for radio listeners rose to about 95%, surpassing social networks to become the leading choice. Meanwhile, microblogging saw a moderate increase to a quarter.
Regarding the older age brackets, radio maintained its top position at around 95% among users aged 30 to 64 before falling slightly to just under 90% of those aged 65+. In contrast, there was a downward trend in the figure for social networks, falling from about 48% in the 30-49 age group to just one-tenth in the oldest group. Moreover, microblogging decreased steadily from just under 20% in the 30-49 age bracket to a negligible proportion in the last group.
