The chart provides information about the variations in the proportion of families with car ownership in a European nation from 1971 to 2001. Overall, the percentage of families with one car and households with two or more cars increased, with the former seeing a bigger rise. In contrast, there was a considerable drop in the figure for households with no car.
The proportion of single-car households started at roughly 16% in 1971 and then rose noticeably to around 27% in 1981. After decreasing moderately to approximately 21% over the next decade, the figure for families with one car experienced a moderate increase, reaching about 27% again. Starting at 35% in 1971, the percentage of households with two or more cars declined slightly to around 30% over the next 10-year period. Despite a significant rise to about 46% in 1991, a slight fall was observed in the figure for families with more than one car to roughly 43% in the span of 10 years.
On the contrary, the percentage of households without a car underwent a marginal drop from approximately 45% to around 42% between 1971 and 1981, and then declined significantly to 30% in 1991. Additionally, there was a negligible dip in the proportion of families with no car to roughly 25%.
