The chart illustrates the level of foreign investment in the economies of India and China between the year 2014 and 2019.
Overall, the foreign investment in China declined steadily; however, throughout the period, it fluctuated in India. Despite the decrease, the total amount of money that was invested into China’s economy was higher than in India.
The Chinese economy received just under $80 billion in 2014, which fell to around $60 billion in 2015 and 2016. (divide the data into chucks). In 2017, there was a slight decline; however, it was followed by a dramatic increase to a point which is more than $100 billion in 2018. Despite the increase, it plummeted to a new low at $40 billion in 2019.
In 2014, foreign investors contributed to the Indian economy slightly higher than $20 billion, then it rose significantly to approximately $60 billion in 2015 and 2016. Nevertheless, there was a massive decrease in 2017 – falling back to the 2014 levels. In 2018, the Indian economy witnessed another increase before falling to a level that is close to 2014 in 2019. 2015 was the only year India’s foreign investment was more than China’s, with values of slightly over $60 billion and slightly below $60 billion, respectively.
