Overall, foreign investment in China declined steadily; however, throughout the period, it fluctuated in India. Despite the decrease, the total amount of money invested in China’s economy was higher than in India.
The Chinese economy received just under $80 billion in 2014, which fell to around $60 billion in 2015 and 2016. In 2017, there was a slight decline; however, it was followed by a dramatic increase to more than $100 billion in 2018. Despite this increase, it plummeted to a new low of $40 billion in 2019.
In 2014, foreign investors contributed slightly more than $20 billion to the Indian economy; then it rose significantly to approximately $60 billion in 2015 and 2016. Nevertheless, there was a massive decrease in 2017— falling back to 2014 levels. In 2018, the Indian economy witnessed another increase before falling to a level close to that of 2014 in 2019. In 2015, India’s foreign investment was the only year it exceeded China’s, with values of slightly over $60 billion and slightly below $60 billion, respectively.
