We then see a major decline in the illiteracy rates in East Asia and Oceania, with 20% for women and less than 10% for males. The illiteracy rate declines for women in the Latin American and Caribbean regions while it increases by a bit for men. Finally, we can find the lowest illiteracy rates in developed countries, with the rates less than 5% for both the genders.
