The given bar graph illustrates the percentage of illiterate males and females in various areas in the last year.
Overall, it is clear that South Asia constituted the highest rate of people who cannot read and write, while there was a negligible number of illiteracy rates in Developed Countries. In addition, women consistently had a higher proportion than men.
To commence with the area having the most significant figure, almost 60% of South Asia’s females suffered from illiteracy. Similarly, men in this area also displayed the maximum number among all regions, at roughly 35%. Arab States and Sub-Saharan Africa, however, accounted for a slightly lower rate, with around 50% and 30% of females and males, respectively.
By contrast, three regions had relatively lower rates. Firstly, illiterate females in East Asia recorded the most noticeable among the three areas, at precisely 20%, while those in Latin American were slightly less at nearly 12%. In comparison, the percentage of males in East Asia was lower than that in Latin American, accounting for about 8% and 10% each. The remaining region, Developed Countries, represented the most educated society, proven by its lowest illiteracy rates, merely 1% for both men and women.
