Overall, it can be seen that most nations saw an increase in the annual rice consumption over the period. Indonesia’s rice consumption experienced a significant increase throughout the years, while the figures for India and China witnessed a downward trend.
In 1995, the number of rice consumption in Indonesia was the highest among three given regions with approximately 90 kilograms per person every year. After that, this figure increased dramatically in the next ten years and reached a peak at 130 kilograms. While China’s figure rose slightly in this period, from more than 60 kilograms to 90 kilograms. Meanwhile India experienced a fluctuation figure around 60 kilograms. From 2005 to 2015, there was a slightly decline in Indonesia’s annual rice consumption, from 130 kilograms to 120 kilograms. In terms of China’s yearly rice consumption, it decreased to
under 70 kilograms. By contrast, the annual consumption in India had a growth from by about 10 kilograms between 2010 to 2015.
