However, in the subsequent years, China experienced a marginal decline to one-fifth of the total inhabitants, whereas the reverse pattern could be seen in the figure for India, with a slight increase to around 17%. At the end of the period, the population of India is forecast to continue to increase and top the list with approximately 20%.
In terms of remaining countries, at the starting point, the proportion of residents in the USA was around 7%, just ahead of that of Japan with 5%. Both figures for the USA and Japan witnessed a slight decrease, with around 2% for both countries. Finally, while the population of the USA is projected to remain unaltered, the figure for Japan is forecast to continue dropping to around 2%.
