In 1840, Asia dominated global production, at just above 50%, compared to approximately 40% of Europe. In the next 120 years, Asia dropped dramatically, occupying for one-fifth of the total world production. Meanwhile, Europe’s percentage fluctuated through the same period, peaking at nearly 50% in 1880, then plummeted sharply to the initial point in 1960. After this, Asia’s figure receded by around 40% while Europe’s proportion saw a significant decline to one-fourth of the total world production in the end.
Concerning the rest part of the world, it surged from under 10% in 1840 to 40% of the whole proportion in 1960. In the next 40 years, this area’s production reduced marginally to just over 35%, regarding as the second biggest producer of the world.
