The chart compares how household in the UK, Australia and Japan allocated their spending across four major categories in 2013.
Overall, Australia allocated lowest percentages in all household while Japan’s expenditure was the highest. Moreover, housing accounted for the largest share of spending in Japan whereas healthcare showed the lowest expenditure in UK.
In terms of housing, Japan recorded the highest figure at roughly 28%, followed closely by the UK with 26% and Australia spent slightly less at around 23%. By contrast, healthcare expenditure was highest in Australia, accounted 23% as opposed to Japan which spent 21%. The UK allocated the lowest percentage to this category, at just under 10%.
Regarding food sector, the UK showed the largest share, at around 18%, while the figure for Japan accounted for 15%. Australia expended the lowest proportion on food, at roughly 11%. A similar pattern can be seen in transportation, where Japan recorded the highest share at around 21%, followed closely by the UK made up 19% and Australia at 14%.
