In 1980, households living in owned housing accounted for 30%. This figure witnessed a rapid increase from 40% in 1990 to 60% in 2000 surpassing the number of rented accommodation, and culminating at 80%.
In contrast, the percentage of homes that were rented declined notably. At the beginning of the time frame it was 70%. By 1990, It fell to 60% but was stil higher than the number of owned housing. The percentage of households in rented accommodation was 40% in 2000. By 2010 it had fallen to 30%, exactly the same as the number of owned accommodation at the beginning. It had declined further to 20% by 2020.
