Overall, number of male and female participants in the Olympics saw an increasing trend. And this led to a growth in the entire number of competitors. It is clear that the figure for women showed the biggest change, although, they were not as many as men each year.
In 1924, the number of males and females who participated in the Olympics stood at roughly 3000 and 100, respectively. The former rose gradually, reaching just below 6000 in 2012. The latter showed a slight increase to approximately 1500 in 1984, then continued to grow dramtically to nearly 4700 by 2012. The gap between them became much smallar in the final year comaperd to the initial year.
Turning to the line graph, in 1924, the number of total participants started at about 3,000. This figure increased minimally to approximately 7,000 in 1984, before growing sharply to roughly 11,000 by 2012.
