The pie chart and the table give information about nursing graduates in the UK in the year 2009.
Overall, by far the largest proportion of nursing graduates chose to work in the health sector, whereas the smallest shares decided to study further and fell into the unspecified category. As for the breakdown of graduates in the health sector, hospital nurse was the most chosen profession, while the opposite was true for mental nurses.
Regarding the destination of nursing graduates, the ‘working in health sector’ option led the pack, accounting for a staggering 84%. This was in stark contrast to other choices, with 8% of the graduates deciding to work and study at the same time, followed by 4% who were unemployed. The shares of the remaining graduates were distributed equally to the categories – ‘further study’ and ‘other’.
As for the table, the proportion of graduates in the health sector who became hospital nurses surpassed that of those in other professions, representing 72.9%. This was followed distantly by midwives which constituted 12.4% and community nurses, at 10.3%. The other graduates in the health sector chose to work as a mental nurse (0.4%), paramedic (1.3%), and ‘other’ (2.7%).
