Overall, the gym participation number increased drastically over the two-decade period. The majority of age groups experienced a dramatic increase, while the proportion of people aged 45 and more witnessed smaller growth compared with the other totals and had the smallest share by the end.
Initially, the attendance rates were almost similar, where the levels of youngsters aged 18-24 and adults aged 25-34 stood out at almost 10%, closely followed by people aged between 35 and 44, at approximately 5%, and adults aged 45 and over, at around 4%. The figure for 25-34 age group rose steadily to just over 50%. The total for 18-24 age group grew slightly in 1994, before rising significantly to 60% by 2006, followed by a small growth to slightly above 60% by 2010.
The rate for people aged 35-44 grew steadily to just over 20% by 2006, before skyrocketing to 40% in 2010. The level for people aged 45 and over rose slightly to 10% in 1998. The total witnessed a minor growth to slightly over 10% in 2006, before increasing by around 10% in 2010.
