This line graph provides information about the growth of population in three metropolitan city of Australia between 1992 and 2016.
From an overall perspective, it is apparent that the number of residents in all the three cities increased throughout the period. Additionally, Melbourne, as the least populated city in 1992, had become the most crowded city, by 2016.
In 1992, Sydney had nearly 30 thousand residents, followed closely by Brisbane and Melbourne with roughly 25 and 24
thousand, respectively. While all the cities had an overall upward trend by 2001, in about 2002 the population in Melbourne reached almost 50 thousand, accounting for the highest population among the cities.
Although, population in Sydney decreased steadily to approximately 20 thousand by 2004, representing the lowest population among the cities, its population surpassed Brisbane in about 2006. Over the rest of the period, Melbourne and Sydney exhibited similar trends and Melbourne became the first city in terms of population in 2016 with almost 110 thousand of dwellers.
