The line graph illustrates detailed information about the number of children who engaged in three different sports—namely, football, athletics, and swimming—in Britain over a 6-year period from 2008 to 2014.
It is clear that the number of children participating in athletics rose dramatically to a peak over the period shown, while the number of children participated in football and swimming remained relatively stable.
In 2008, athletics was the least popular sport among the others, with only 1 million participants. Between 2008 and 2010, there was only a slight increase in the number of participants. By 2012, however, the total number of competitors had risen to 4 million and reached 5 million. After that, the figure for competitors remained relatively stable for the rest of the period.
At the start of the given period, the number of competitors in football and swimming was recorded at around 8 million and 2 million, respectively. Until 2010, the number of football players remained stable at this level, after which it saw a minor rise, reaching 9 million. The number of swimmers, however, increased steadily throughout the period, reaching just under 4 million.
