Demonstrated in the given bar graph is the ratio of homeowners and renters in Britain aged 25 to 34 who were housed over a period of 10 years from 2004 to 2014.
Overall, the proportion of homeowners has decreased significantly whereas there was a dramatic upward trend among renters. However, at almost all times, the share of homeowners was still higher, but in the final 2 years, renting a house was more popular.
As is observed, in 2004, individuals who owned a house made up a significantly higher percentage, around 58%, while just 20% of people rented a house. In the next 2 years, there was a slight decrease in owned houses, about 56% whilst the percentage of renters started to increase. In 2007, homeowners increased marginally, but decreased sharply in the following years, falling to 43% in 2011. By the same period, renters rapidly increased up to 41% in 2011. In 2012, this percentage remains the same as 1 year ago.
After 2012, it has changed when the number of people renting a house is higher than the number of people renting a house. In 2013, there are 45% of people rented houses while just 40% individuals owned a house. This ratio of renters still increased up to around 50% whereas homeowners fell to 37%.
