Overall, it is clear that home owners saw an downward trend, while the percentage of renters increased over the time. Besides, there were more home owners than renters in the UK in most years.
In 2004, nearly 60% people owned a house and this figure almost trebled that for renters of the same age group. Between 2005 and 2008, the percentage of people owning a house fluctuated around 55% before it dropped substantially to 47% in 2010. By contrast, there was a steady increase in the percentage of renters from 2005 to 2010 although the number of renters was significantly lower than that of home owners.
From 2011 to 2012, slight more people owned a house than to rent one although the figures for two groups remained stable at 43% and 41% respectively. After two years, there was a dramatic rise the percentage of renters to below 50%, exceeding that of home owners, which declined to 45%.
