The charts illustrate the change in the percentage of electrical appliances(like Washing Machine, Refrigerator, Vacuum Cleaner) ownership and how the same impacted household work over the period of 1920 to 2019.
As a part of industrialization and advent of new technologies, people are looking forward to better means of replacement and automation for their daily household chores. And the same evident from current data sample too. There has been a monumental growth in the figures for utilization of electrical equipments like washing refrigerators, and vacuum cleaner from 0 and 30 percent of households to nearly the entire population over the mentioned period.
While the number of Washing Machines has grown only from 40 to 75 percent over the mentioned period. The same has also showcased its benefits to the general population by reducing the number of hours spent per week on household chores from 50 hours per week to as low as 10 hours per week. The same proves that these commodities have helped people to dedicate more time to other areas of daily work in comparison to household work.
Both refrigerators and vacuum cleaners became a visible site across all household in the cities since the beginning of the new millennium but, washing machines still struggle to be a common site suggesting that people prefer using private washing services for their laundry. The number of washing machines even saw a decline of 5 percent from 1960s to 1980s but, they coped up back to the initial number of 70 percent households in the year 2000. The reduced number of hours spent per week on household work has shown a standard decline from 1920 onwards and increased number of electrical equipments per household indicates that people have adapted to the modern lifestyle with introduction of new inventions in their day to day lives.
