The bar and pie charts illustrate how many books of various types were borrowed in Lammertown public Library in 1991 and 2001 and the proportion of genders in Library Membership in 2010.
Overall, the number of self-improvement, language, thriller and romance books borrowed increased, while the figures for the remaining categories fell noticeably or remained unchanged. Moreover, women accounted for the majority of library membership in 2010.
In 1991, around 200 self improvement books were borrowed and the figure increased fivefold, whereas borrowing of language books doubled, reaching 200 in 2001. As for romance, which was the most popular category in both years, and thriller books, their numbers rose from 1000 and just over 600 to 1400 and 800, respectively.
In contrast, crime novels and children’s fiction followed the opposite pattern. The figure for the former was around 400 and that of the latter stood at nearly 600 in 1991, before both almost halving in 2001. Regarding autobiographies, their number remained unchanged (just under 400).
Furthermore, in 2010 68% of Library members were women, compared with 32% who were men.
