Overall, crime novels and children’s fiction books witnessed a considerable decrease, whereas the reverse is true for other types. Also, it is indicated that men outnumbered women in library membership.
In the beginning, figures levelled at 200 for self-improvement, around 50 for language, 1000 for romance and just above 600 for thriller books. After a decade, this was followed by a significant increase to almost 1000 for self-improvement, 200 for language, 1400 for romance and 800 for thriller books. No change was observed for autobiographies and stood at just below 400.
In 1991, crime novels stood at about 500 and the numbers for children’s fiction indicated around 700, but this was followed by a significant decrease to 200 and just below 400 respectively. When it came to the library membership, in 2010, it was revealed that men showed higher figures and indicated 88 per cent, whereas 12 per cent was observed for women.
