The two pie charts compare the relative contribution of 5 different energy sources (coal, gas, petrol, nuclear and other energy sources) to total energy output in France in two years (1995 and 2005).
Overall, in both years coal and gas were the predominant sources for energy generation, whereas other energy sources were used the least. While the production of energy by coal and gas experienced marginale growth, nuclear power and other energy sources almost doubled. Petrol was the only source to see a decline over the period given.
Energy production from coal accounted for 29,8% in 1995 and by 2005, it increased to reach 30,93%. Similarly, the amount of energy generated by gas rose by about 1% form 29,63% in the first year to 30,31% at the end of the period. The use of nuclear power in France experienced a significant rise from 6,40% in 1995 to 10,10% by the final year. Other energy sources recorded a similar growth, rising from 4,90% to 9,10%
Petrol, on the other hand, produced 29,27% of all energy in 1995, but 10 years later only 19,55% of energy came from this source.
