The bar chart compares the world literacy rates between male and female from 5 different regions in 2000.

Overall, the number of illiterate males was always lower than the number of illiterate females. Besides, South Africa had the highest literacy rate while some developed countries had the lowest.

As can be seen from the chart, developed countries illiterate males were almost 0 and female illiteracy rate was just a bit higher. The number of Latin America/Caribbean illiterate males and females were not much different, which was around 10 people. In East Asia/Oceania, males illiteracy rate was nearly 10 people but females illiteracy rate was approximately 10 people higher, which was 20 people.

Males illiteracy rate from Sub – Saharan Africa was 30 people and females illiteracy rate was still higher and was nearly 50 people. In Arab States, the number of illiterate males was a little lower than in Sub – Saharan Africa but the number of illiterate females here was about 10 people higher. South Africa, which got the highest illiteracy rates, the illiterate males there were about 35 people and illiterate females were still higher and nearly reached 60 people.
