The line chart shows information about European people of different age groups who went to the gym at least once a month between 1990 and 2010.
Overall, the percentage of people going to the gym increased in all age groups over this 20-year period. The young people aged 18-24 were mostly the most active, while the oldest group of 45 and over always had the lowest numbers.
At the beginning in 1990, gym visits were very low for everyone. Only about 7% of people in the 18-24 and 25-34 age groups went to the gym. The older groups had even fewer visitors, with about 4% for 35-44 year-olds and 3% for those aged 45 and over.
Over the next years, gym attendance went up steadily for all groups. By 2006, the 18-24 age group reached the highest point at nearly 60%, although it dropped a little bit to about 55% in 2010. Meanwhile, the 25-34 age group grew more slowly and reached 50% at the end of the period. The 35-44 age group also grew a lot after 2002 and finished at 40% in 2010. Lastly, the 45 and over group stayed the lowest, increasing slowly to just over 20% in 2010.
