The bar chart shows the amount of foreign aid given by six developed countries to developing countries between 2008 and 2010, measured in billions of dollars.
Overall, the USA provided by far the highest level of aid in all three years, while Sweden and the Netherlands donated the least. In general, most countries increased their aid over the period, although some figures remained fairly stable.
Looking first at the USA, aid rose steadily from about 21 billion dollars in 2008 to 25 billion in 2010. The UK also showed an upward trend, increasing from roughly 9 billion to around 13 billion dollars. Similarly, Germany’s contribution grew slightly, from approximately 11 billion in 2008 to about 12 billion in 2010.
Japan gave around 11 billion dollars in 2008 and 2009, and this figure stayed almost the same in 2010. Aid from the Netherlands increased moderately from about 6 billion to nearly 8 billion dollars. In contrast, Sweden’s aid fell slightly over the period, from around 7 billion in 2009 to about 5 billion in 2010.
