The bar chart illustrates five different levels of post-school qualifications in Australia and compares the proportions of individuals who possessed them based on gender in 1999.
Overall, it can be observed that among five post-school qualifications, three of them were predominantly obtained by male holders, including skilled vocational diploma, postgraduate diploma, and master’s degree. Considering this, the holders of the rest of the qualifications, such as undergraduate diplomas and bachelor’s degrees, were mainly female.
Specifically, as depicted on the chart, the most popular qualification among men at the time was a skilled vocational diploma with more than 90% male holders, while merely 10% were females. Postgraduate diploma had the second greatest proportion of male holders with approximately 70% of them. As well as the previous two qualifications, master’s degree was also mostly attained by men, with approximately 60% of them.
Conversely, women dominated undergraduate diplomas, with their proportion standing at roughly 70%, which was almost twice more than the male’s one. Although there was not a wide gap between proportions of men and women in terms of bachelor’s degree, women accounted for the larger proportion, with more than 50%.
