The chart illustrates the percentage of total spending relative to three different categories amongst different age groups of residents in the UK in 2004.
Overall, expenditure of Food and Drinks, and Entertainment increased proportionally to age but decreased in hospitality. Despite the similar trends shown in Entertainment and Food and Drinks, food and drinks generally mantain a higher percentage of total spending.
The Restaurant and Hotel category reached a peak of a total percentage of just under 15% amongst the age group of the under 30, since then the percentage steadily declined until the age group of 61-75 where the percentage plummeted to under 5% despite the previous age group of 46-60 acquiring 13%. The percentage rose back up to just below 8% at the age group of 76+.
Both the Food and Drink industry and the Entertainment industry show increasing percentages, with both reaching the same peak of just below 25%. However the Food and Drink category reached the peak at 61-75 whereas the Entertainment industry reached the peak at the age group of 76+ before plummeting to 13%.
