The bar graph illustrates the number of detainees in five countries – Britain, Australia, New Zealand, US and Canada between 1930 and 1980.
Overall, Canada had the highest number of prisoners while Great Britain had the least, but after 50 years, the number of prisoners decreased in Canada and US had the highest number of imprisonment.
Initially, in 1930, Canada was accounted for the highest number of prisoners of 120000. However, the figure declined steadily over the span of 50 years and reached to about 90000 in 1980. On the other hand, US held the second position with the figure of 100000 in 1930 but it fluctuated and remained around the same level for the next 4 decades before reaching to it’s peak of approximately 130000 towards the end of the period.
As for the rest of the nations, Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand had about 30, around 70000 and 100000 imprisonments respectively in 1930. In the next decade the figures fell to around 50000 for Australia and nearly 55000 for New Zealand but the data of Great Britain remained same. There was not a major change for next 20 years . However, in 1970, these 3 nations had the same number of detainees of around 70000 but in the next decade, Great Britain surpassed Australia with figure of around 82000 which was slightly less than that of New Zealand
