Overall, there was an upward trend in the learners of piano, drums, and guitar, while there was less interest in violin. Piano and guitar were the most popular musical instruments among school students in all years.
In 2005, almost the same number of students (10%) played the piano and guitar. Both figures went up to roughly 20% in 2010. In 2015, two-fifth of learners showed an interest in guitars. Likewise, this figure for piano was just below 40%.
Regarding drums, there was a minimal growth in their players. A small minority of students (5%) learned this musical instrument in both 2005 and 2010 before this percentage increased to 10% in the final year. By contrast, the rate of children playing the violin dipped by 5%, from 10% to 5% between 2000 and 2015.
