The bar graph represents the proportions of four types of musical instruments that were learned by children at school from 2005 to 2015 measured in proportions.
It is noticeable that the proportion of children playing musical instruments increased over the period except for the violin which significantly decreased. The guitar had the highest proportion of the four types of musical instruments and the drums had the lowest proportion throughout the period.
In 2015, the guitar had the highest proportion of the four types of musical instruments at 40% over the ten-year period. It started at over 10% in 2005. After the five years it had increased to under 20% in 2010. There was a similar trend for the piano which had the second highest proportion. In 2015 it was approximately 40% having started at over 10% in 2005 and risen steadily to 20% in 2010. Likewise the same percentage for drums remained stable from 2005 to 2010 at under one in ten and gradually climbed to around 10%.
In contrast, the proportion of violins had decreased throughout the entire period, starting from 10 % in 2005 and falling to just under 10% that which became the lowest in 2015 at half of ten percent.
