The chart illustrates the data on how many international applicants applied to one European country’s universities from 2004 to 2008.
Overall, there was a downward trend in the number of applicants to the universities of China, whereas the figures for the USA and Japan experienced an increase throughout the period in question. Applications to the Russian universities, meanwhile, showed insignificant changes.
Looking at the details, as regards the China, the number of applications accounted for about 27000, having by far the highest statistics in 2004. Over the period, the number gradually decreased to 15000 people in 2008.
The figure for the USA, however, saw an opposite trend, having grown steadily from roughly 13500 applicants to 27000 at the end of the period. Japan, likewise, witnessed similar growth, but less considerable. The number went up from around 6000 to 10000 during the period. With respect to the figure for Russia, there was a minor decline in 2005, and then the number leveled off until it rose to the same position as it was in 2004, which is approximately 3000 people.
