The bar chart compares the numbers of males and females in further education in the United Kingdom in three periods (1970/71, 1980/81, and 1990/91) who were dedicating their full-time in education or who were studying part-time education.
Overall, the number of people studying part-time fluctuated throughout the period, whereas full-time education showed a gradual increase throughout the period. In 1970/71, males had the highest number for part-time education, while they had the lowest number of full-time students. In addition, in 1990/91, women showed a significant rise for its part-time education enrollment.
At the beginning of the period, around 10,000 males studied part-time, while the figures for females was only at around 7,000 people. Both male and female full-time students stood at fewer than 2,000. In the second period, part-time education for male decreased slightly to above 8,000 individuals. In contrast, female showed an increase to 8,000. Moreover, the numbers of women and men full-time in education started to grow to 2,000 people and approximately 1,800 people.
At the end of the period, the figures of men studying part-time rose slightly, with the number of more than 8,000. The number of women part-time students reached its peak in 1990/91, climbed up to above 10,000 students. On the other hand, both men and women recorded the same number of full-time students.
