The bar chart illustrates the thousands of women and men who studied in further education in Britain, and if they were studying full-time or part time, in the period between 1970 and 1991.
Overall, the highest figure of the male’s chart was in 1970/1971, while the year when most of the women attended further education was in 1990/1991. In general, in every year of the chart more people studied part-time than full-time.
In 1970/1971 the thousands of males who studied in part-time education was more than 5 times higher than the ones who studied in full-time education. The figure of men who were in full-time education contained relatively stable by 1980/1981, on the other hand the number of males who were in part- time decreased by almost 200 thousands. At the end of the period there were around 900 thousands of part timers and just over 200 thousands of full timers.
The women’s chart shows that from 1970/71 to 1990/1991 the figure of part-time students surged significantly with around 400 thousands. The full-time students number also grew, it went from around 50 thousands to over 200.
