The bar chart illustrates the proportion of approved and constructed apartments in four Australia’s urban areas from 2012 to 2016.
Overall, the chart displays different trends in particular cities: the number of approved apartments in large cities like Sydney and Melbourne increased significantly throughout the period but fluctuated in Brisbane and Perth. Despite the differences, the amount of apartments approved in construction increased in each city.
Sidney’s number of approved apartments received 15000 in 2012, which grow to around 17000 apartments in 2013 and 2014. After that, there was a massive resurgence in 2015 to 30000 apartments, that increased to just below 35 thousand apartments, reaching its highest peak. In 2012, Melbourne started at around 16000 apartments, before falling steadily to 15000 in 2013. In 2014, there was a dramatic increase to over 20 thousand apartments that fluctuated until the end of the period.
In 2012, Brisbane reached more than 5000 apartments, before rising steeply and hovering between 10000 and 15000 in other 3 years. And finally, Perth, which received around 2500 apartments and grew gradually to approximately 6 thousand in 2014 and 2015, before receding to 5 thousand approved apartments in 2016.
