The bar chart compares the number of apartments approved for construction in four different cities of Australia over a five-year period between 2012 and 2016.
Overall, it is evident that all cities experienced increases in the number of approved apartments for construction, with the most significant growth observed in Melbourne and Sydney, while Brisbane and Perth had a relatively lower number of approved buildings during the given period.
In 2012, Melbourne had the highest number of approved buildings for construction, with 17,000 houses, followed by a slight decrease to 15,000 the following year. This figure, then, underwent a dramatic rise to just under 25,000 apartments in 2015 before dropping to 22,000 in the final year. Regarding Sydney, its share started at a relatively lower rate (15,000 houses) than Melbourne, but this figure underwent a consistent rise, reaching a peak of just under 30,000 and showing the highest number among the four cities.
The figures for Brisbane and Perth, on the other hand, had a relatively lower number. While the former rose from 7,000 in 2012 to 14,000 apartments in 2015, followed by a slight drop at the end of the period, the latter had the lowest number, at 2,000 apartments initially. However, this figure showed an upward trend to 6,000 houses in the next two years, followed by a period of stability, and dropping to 5,000 apartments again in the final year.
