The bar chart gives information about the proportion of people interested in six different sports in the UK across 1995, 2000, and 2005.
Overall, football consistently remained the UK’s most popular sport throughout the period. In addition, while football, swimming, and rugby experienced an upward trend in popularity over the period, interest in other sports declined.
Looking at the chart in more detail, in 1995 the percentages of people who preferred to play football stood at 42%, while about 22% of people interested in swimming and rugby attracted approximately 24% of people. In the following years, football continued to dominate, with the interest rising to about 45% in 2005. Meanwhile, swimming peaked at 29% in 2000 before falling to 25% at the end of the period. The opposite trend was true for rugby, with its figure dropping to 19% and then increasing significantly to 30%.
Regarding the remaining sports, in 1995 snooker accounted for 30% of the interest, while the figure for tennis and golf was 29 and 27% respectively. Thereafter, both snooker and tennis experienced a decline, ending up at around 25% each in the final year. Whereas the percentage of people interested in golf decreased to 25% in 2000 and finished the period at 26%.
