The chart illustrates the number of registered and used transports-lorries, bus, motorcycles, private cars, and other types-in a European country between year 1996 and 2006. Overall, private cars were the most commonly used type of transport in both years while the reverse was true for bus. It is also noticeable that the two biggest changes were seen in the figures for other types and motorcycle with 58% and 40%, respectively.
When we focus on the upper values, by far the most commonly used vehicles were private cars and the figure for these in use stood at 19 million in 1996 followed by a dramatic increase to just 24 million and changes in percentage was 28% in year 2006. In terms of other means of transport, their usage was 1.2 million at the beginning of the given period, before rising to 1,9 million [58% in percentage] in the second year.
Looking at the figures with minor differences, lorries, bus, and motorcycles were the smallest among all categories. The figure for motorcycles, which stood at 1 million at the beginning of the period, experienced a noticeable decline, dropping to 0.6 million [-40%] a decade later, in 2006. Furthermore, the number of lorries in usage in the first year was 0.5 million, after which it underwent a modest drop to just 0.4 million [-20%] in the 2006. An almost unchanged figure [0.1 million] was recorded for bus usage.
