The bar chart and table compare the number of tourists from the UK, France and Mexico who visited Canada in 2009 and 2019, and their average spend per trip in those years. Overall, visitor arrivals and per-capita expenditure rose across all three markets over the decade, with Mexico exhibiting the strongest proportional growth despite remaining the smallest contributor in absolute terms. Nevertheless, the UK and France continued to dominate Canada’s tourism receipts in absolute figures.
Between 2009 and 2019, UK arrivals increased from approximately 550 000 to 750 000, overtaking France, which grew from around 600 000 to 650 000. Mexican visitor numbers more than doubled, surging from roughly 250 000 to 500 000—the most pronounced relative rise.
Average spend per visit followed a similar pattern. UK tourists boosted their outlay by CAD 245, from CAD 612 to CAD 857, while French travellers’ expenditure rose by CAD 226 to reach CAD 830. Mexican tourists nearly doubled their average spend, climbing by CAD 288 from CAD 314 to CAD 602. Despite Mexico’s rapid gains, its totals still lagged well behind those of the UK and France.
