The bar chart gives information on the proportion of Australian children in three different age groups participating in four various activities in 2018. Overall, watching TV was the most popular pastime, while the reverse was true for playing computer games. The remaining two activities – reading and riding bikes – showed more variation, with different age groups showing distinct preferences.
In terms of watching TV, over 95% of 5-8 age group engaged in this activity, opposed to 80% in both 9-11 and 12-16 age brackets. By contrast, playing video games was less favored as children grew older. The figure stood at 60% for the youngest age group, dropping slightly in the next age bracket, and further declining to just 40% among 12-16-years-old.
As for the reading, it was more common with those aged 9-11 and 12-16, at around 70%, compared to the youngest age cohort. Regarding riding bikes, despite having the highest participation rate at roughly 80% among the oldest age group, the figure for other two groups hovered around 60-65%.
