Overall, as children get older, the amount of physical activity they do generally decreases. In the UK, younger girls generally do less physical activity than younger boys but older girls generally do more physical activity than older boys.

Compared to the world average, younger girls and boys in the UK generally do more physical activity but older girls and boys in the UK generally do less.Comparing the youngest and oldest age groups we can see that, in the youngest age group, exercise levels were no lower than 70%, but in the oldest age groups, the highest level was only 55%. Among the older age groups the biggest differences in activity levels is found in the 12-15 age group, where the activity level for girls is 55% but for boys it is just 40%.

In the younger age groups the differences are not as large. The physical activity level for girls in the 3-5 age group is 85%, but for boys in the same group it is only 5% more.
