The chart illustrates the proportion of households in rented & owned accommodation over the time frame of 1918 to 2011 in Wales & England.
Overall, there is an increase in own the proportion of owned accommodation, whereas a decreasing trend is noticeable in the proportion of households that have rented accommodation facility.
In 1918, 78% of the households were living in a rented home & only 28% of them had owned housing facility. Over the years, the trend of owning a home has gone up to around 68% in 2011. The present percentage of owned housing increased steadily starting from 1918 to 2001 which followed by a drop of 6% to in 2014 to 63% in 2011 from 69% in 2002.
The ratio of families in rented facility was very high in 1918 i.e. 77%. The ratio decreased continuously from 1918 to 2001 with a marginal increase in 2011 to 37% from 32% in 2001. It is also worth noticing that the ratio of owned & rented accommodation facility of a households was 50:50 in 1971.
