The bar chart presents the percentage of people in the UK who ate five portions of fruit and vegetables per day between 2001 and 2008.
Overall, women consistently recorded the highest figures throughout the period, whereas children had the lowest. All three groups experienced an overall increase, although the figures for women and children declined slightly towards the end of the period.
In 2001, women accounted for well over 20%, which was over double the percentage of children (well over 10%). The proportion of women rose modestly and reached a peak of 35% in 2006, before decreasing slightly to approximately 30% in the following years. A similar upward trend can be seen in the figure for children, but this category was relatively stable in the first 3 years and peaked in 2007 (over 25%).
Meanwhile, men recorded the second-highest figures for most of the period, standing at considerably more than 20% in 2001 and started to climb in 2004. The figure continued to rise, reaching just above 25%, but saw a small dip in 2008.
