The bar chart compares the proportions of Internet users in various activities in the UK between 2007 and 2009.
Overall, it is clear that the percentage of users involved in shopping increased significantly by the end of the period, while reading books was the dominant activity at the beginning. The proportion of users who shopped online made up the largest group among all activities, whereas watching TV was less popular in both years.
The proportion of individuals using the Internet for shopping and banking started at over 40% and around 35%, after which these figures saw a sharp increase, reaching about 55% and 45% in 2009. Similarly, the figures for chatting and playing video games grew steadily from 25% to 30% and from 15% to exactly 20% in the final year.
In contrast, only 10% of Internet users in the UK watched TV, and this figure then increased noticeably to nearly 30%. The last two categories can be seen in the figures for reading books and learning, which were about 35% and 30% respectively, while these percentages witnessed a slight drop in the final year, falling to 30% and 25%.
